Tinkertown - June 16

One of the perks of local swim lessons is getting to interact with other families.  Ai had hit it off with a boy in the change room earlier in the spring, as he'd had a Thomas the Train suitcase that Ai really admired.  That interaction turned into a invitation to Issa's fourth birthday party, Sierra Leonean style.  I haven't been surrounded by so many cute children in a long time!  And we didn't have any embarrassing comments, which was nice.  Though just after I took these pictures . . .

. . . Ai said, "I don't want to be here with all these Black girls."  I realized that things might not be as it seemed, narrowing down that Ai simply didn't want to be with girls regardless of what colour they might be.  Phew!

The bonus of the party, on top of the yummy food and complimentary T-shirts, was that it was held at the small amusement park, Tinkertown, located just east of the city.  We hadn't been before, so the kids had a blast.  I loved seeing how well the younger two got along in their excitement.  It was a bonus that after a while of going on the younger rides, we happened upon one of A's classmates who was happy to get away from her younger sibling.  Made for a great afternoon of cheap fun.   And the predicted thunderstorm held off, so my kids looked rather funny in their rubber boots!  Oh well . . .
