As of tomorrow, I finally get a break from spring break! Naturally we enjoyed having A home, but with rain and other not so great weather most of the week, it made for longer days of entertainment indoors for me. I've finally had a taste of what parents with older children experience - that spring break is rather over-rated . . . unless you live somewhere warm, have a parent who's a teacher, have extra money to do something more exciting regardless or some combination of the above. :)
Here's a few pictures from the week. The kids enjoyed playing in the back cement area when it wasn't too chilly. I liked that Iz dressed herself this particular morning. Quite the clothes-combo . . .
I think she'd been inspired by some of A's recent artwork. Lots of funky outfits :).
I found this drawing in a workbook that A must have done last year. It's cute to see how her drawing has improved. She's not one for worrying about colouring in meticulously, but she certainly has creative ideas when she gets going.
On Tuesday, I pushed the younger two in the stroller while A rode her pedal-less bike beside me. We went to Portage Place Mall - only 15 minutes away we discovered - where the highlight was watching the water fountain spout super high every 4 minutes or so. They could have sat a looooong time watching. Instead, we checked out the start of the Winnipeg Walkway - a series of tunnels and covered pedestrian bridges that connect the downtown core for over 2 kms. Some rainy day we'll make it a project to explore it all . . .
Wednesday Ai and A must have entertained themselves on my computer while I was on the phone and Iz was reading books. Found a whole load of these types of pictures later:
Thursday we had over A's classmate, Lilly, along with her older brother and Mom. It was a cold day, so it was really good to just hang out and get to know each other better.
Friday, A was fortunate to have a play date out with her classmate, Vanny. Her parents spoiled them with a trip to the Festival of Fools at the Forks and time in the Children's Museum. Looks like she had dressed up as a clown a day too early! She looks much sweeter as an Aristocat . . .
Saturday we explored downtown a little more, had afternoon naps, then went to a favourite old park. After dinner, they rushed out (without faces washed) as the ice-cream truck was going past. Disappointed not to get a treat, I satisfied them with pineapple on chopsticks - kind of a popsicle? Couldn't resist a few pictures as they were relaxed and rather goofy.
Now, I'm looking forward to the return of schedule as I look around the house and see plenty to tidy and clean. Can't believe it's Easter next weekend already . . .

Yes, Spring Break can be challenging, especially when it is 2 weeks! I"m looking forward to exploring the mall with you... Susan :)
Yes - one week was enough for me! I can't imagine 5 kids and 2 weeks with them home. I'd pay to send one away on a big class trip if I was you, too! In terms of malls, I'm not sure how this one fares for shops - didn't even look what they had! But we'll have fun exploring together all the same . . .
