The Cat Came Back

Steve's return from his work trip to Toronto was timed perfectly.  He had today off, which meant that I could, for once, go with A on a field trip as a helper.  I took the school bus with her at 8:30.  As expected, it had a few rowdy kids lobbing 'shut-ups' and such around the back of the bus, but A seemed to know the names of the younger students at the front.  She impressed me by how she'd approach other - older and younger- to introduce herself or engage with a question or two.  Though shy at times, she displays a confidence I lacked till I was much older!

We then transferred over to another school bus with her classmates and headed off to Manitoba's Theatre for Young People, located at the Forks.   Though tired, having two sick younger kids who kept me awake through the night, I enjoyed getting to know some of her classmates.  Even though I'm more of a Raffi follower when it comes to kids music,  I do know Fred Penner's "The Cat Came Back."  He and another singer/actor starred in this humorous musical production, based on the song.  I had lots of fun singing along with the kids.

It's A's second time to see a production at MTYP this school year, so I'm happy she has these kinds of opportunities.  After the show we  bumped into Fred Penner and A let him know that she's only lived in Manitoba, "not even a year and I've seen you twice!  You're funny!" Fortunately she didn't ask if he's Raffi's brother or how old he is - questions she's been asking us here and there.  After she returned home from school, we enjoyed a few YouTube videos listening to his songs, with the "Cat Came Back" sticking in our heads, where I'm sure it will be for many days.
