My day opened with a good quote and ended with another - I love when that happens (does it ever?).

I awoke to Iz in the hallway, obviously with a soother in her mouth (yes - I'm embarrassed to admit that she still has one through the night).  Steve must have asked her to put it back in her bed, as I heard:

"I need to take it out of my mouth or I'll have to go live with the beavers.  Then I'll eat wood and go, "Yum, Yum, Yum!"  She's obviously understood our comments about the (hypothetical) dentist being upset that she has one and that it will warp her teeth!

And I had thoughts of heading to bed earlier as we're all battling a cold that A breezed through over the weekend.  Ai has been barking badly so I just went to console his crying, take his temperature, and give him some medicine - all of which made him wide awake.  When sick, he often has a very high temperature (above 40 C), so its no surprise that he was rather happily delirious, chatting non-stop for 15 minutes. All very funny, cute stuff - much of which makes no sense and blurs from true story to make-believe, mingled with pieces of memories I'm surprised he still has.  And of course, interspersed with talk about Thomas the Train and his many friends . . . we still can't escape Thomas very long in any given day!
Photos from a different day, but typically Thomas and friends trains are nearby . . .

He was remembering the coy fish we fed at the plant store in Maple Ridge (one time in October 2010!) and how we picked fallen fish food off the ground to give them because I didn't have 25 cents for the food machine!  He also described the different jams he had at my parents house (all very accurate) and the colourful cheerios he ate, making me wonder if they fed him Fruit Loops!  He then talked of Grandma and Grandpa wearing hats. "Grandma's was funny - no top on it." (which is true - she wears one of those sporty visor hats).  "Grandpa had a hat all over his head because he has no hair.  Just hair on the sides (using his hands to animatedly demonstrate).  And in his ears. <pause>  I miss him."

After some more kisses, because he was just so adorable at the moment, I had to just say good-night and close the door on his chit-chat.  I don't think the thing about hair in Grandpa's ears is too true, but it did make me laugh.  But definitely he was clear about missing Grandpa.  We all do (and Grandma, too).
