He wasn't crying in any of these - just expressing his reluctance with a vengeance. But, time for a little hug and a pep talk: "Gigi (Great-Grandma) will be so sad to not get a nice Valentine's photo. She needs to see a smile. She lives in her new apartment in the older people's home and feels lonely." Somehow that did the trick and Ai at least tried to smile . . .
Still painful . . .
. . . but at last we got a decent-enough one to stop the photo-torture. Not quite the look I was hoping for, but it sure gave me a good laugh. In Ai's defence, he's been under the weather and was sick in his car seat yesterday. He's obviously not up to par yet.
On a similar note, of sorts, after the dentist, we went to the downtown library and I happened to pick up "Awkward Family Photos" by Mike Bender and Doug Chernak. I seem to be drawn to weird humour books these days - perhaps feeling the effects of a long winter? It reminded me of some growing-up family photos that could easily have made the cut for the book. After dinner, S and I had a good laugh as we saw photos and captions like this:

MY TWO DADS If only there was some way to tell who is who . . .

A BEAUTIFUL MIND Ever wonder what the kid with the clarinet is really thinking?

THERE'S PLENTY OF ROOM ON THE COUCH But the chairs are all taken
There's all kinds of funny photos on the website where I found these ones from the book. Shucks. More internet diversion possibilities, but it seems February is a good month to have some humorous ones? I could always use a little more laughter. :)

Your attempts at the perfect Valentine's day photo are hilarious... Aiden is not going to be happy someday when those photos make it into the 20th edition of "Awkward Family Photos!" And please don't submit any of ours... Susan :)
I thought you'd appreciate these pics, Susan. Probably reminds you of how bad I was about some of these things as a kid! And yes, we'd certainly have a few good photos we could submit . . . though I think you cut-up most of the ones that had you looking not so great in them. I'd have to cut up too many! :)
