February Flu By

Classically, February is not in the top ten when it comes to favourite months of the year.  This year, it certainly wasn't for us.  The colds and viruses that we mostly managed to evade through fall and winter have finally discovered where we live and wanted to make up for lost time!  We had one week where we were mostly all well so we could enjoy some Valentine treats.  But other than that, it's been a sick month and a bit around here - most of our photo shoots would have looked like this:

Normally so resilient, A has had the hardest month of us all.  Mind you, its now March, but she's curled up napping with ear infections.  This is following a week of a virus that gave all three kids high fevers for three days before it morphed into chest colds.  I'm used to Ai getting 41 C fevers when ill, but the girls have never been above 38, so seeing them reach the same heights was disconcerting.  S was away in Saskatchewan and Alberta for 8 days when he called home last Thursday night.  I'd finally (mildly) succumbed to the flu, too, so instead of driving to a conference in Saskatoon the next day, S drove his rental car (which they don't outfit with snow tires!), 14 hours through a snowstorm on Friday to come home to help.  So nice, eh.  He even drove on a backroad for the last 90 kilometres to Winnipeg as the highway had been closed.  I'm so glad I didn't know that at the time!  Sadly, he's now in bed with a high fever, aches and a cough.

And as far as February illnesses go, from the status updates of Facebook friends and ones I've talked with in person,  all spread in various spots of the country, it seems that it was the chosen month for many people.  Hopefully it missed you . . .
